Lawmakers are considering additional financial support for farmers as rising input costs and global uncertainty continue to strain the ag economy. During an Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee hearing, Chairman John Hoeven called for more assistance and a higher borrowing limit for the Commodity Credit Corporation. Hoeven pushed for an agriculture component in a supplemental funding package. “We need to do more there. I firmly believe that, in a supplemental, along with weather assistance, maybe some funding for the military, that there needs to be an ag piece there.” Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins agreed that additional support may be necessary and backed increasing CCC authority. “I think there is more to do, especially as we are facing some unforeseen consequences of the conflict overseas, especially with some of our input prices.” She added, “I personally think it’s time, 30 years since the last time we increased the limit of the CCC, and we would certainly welcome that at USDA.”
