High fertilizer prices were a consideration in a few of the amendments proposed for the so-called ‘skinny’ farm bill. North Dakota Representative Julie Fedorchak’s amendment calls for a feasibility study on storage facility loans for farmers to build and maintain on-farm fertilizer storage, an issue advanced by the North Dakota Grain Growers Association. Another amendment would have the USDA provide grants and loans to increase domestic fertilizer production.
