NDSU Extension Livestock Specialist Lisa Pederson says the recent wet snow has hampered calving. “While the moisture was certainly welcome, I think probably most folks would wished it would have come at a different time,” said Peterson. “We’re going to get some muddy conditions, which will cause bigger challenges for our producers and their livestock.” Newborn livestock, whether it be calves or lambs, need a dry place to lie. Peterson believes the conditions will improve with warmer temperatures and wind, which should help with the balance of the spring calving season.
