The Fargo-based technology firm, Bushel, has released its 2026 State of the Farm Report. According to Bushel Director of Marketing and Communication Julia Eberhart, more than 1,400 farmers participated in this extensive survey. “The dataset that we have this year is our youngest to date,” said Eberhart. “We had more respondents in that 31 to 50 year old range than we’ve ever had in the past and saw decreases in that 60-plus. As we’re seeing farm succession, and things like that, this is mirroring that with some of those younger guys starting to take over and be the decision-makers and leaders on the farm.” Forty-two percent of the farmers surveyed said they were willing to experiment with new technologies. Most farmers are using an average of three software systems for their business. One hurdle is the ability to have all of those platforms communicate with each other. The survey found that the use of artificial intelligence on farms is limited to the early adopters. Listen to the interview with Eberhart. The State of the Farm Report is available online.
