Rising fertilizer prices are forcing farmers to rethink crop decisions and input strategies heading into the 2026 growing season. BW Fusion agronomy consultant Josh Messer says growers are adjusting. “It’s really hard to find the profitability level in crops, so, guys are looking for a much more efficient way to address fertility,” said Messer. “There’s a fair amount of spring wheat acres that have dropped out of the rotations this year.” Messer says improving return on investment is critical. “We’re got to look at better ways to utilize what’s already there.” He points to tools like BioCast Max, a biological product designed to release nutrients and break down soil carbon to improve efficiency, helping farmers reduce reliance on traditional fertilizer programs.
