CHS President and CEO Jay Debertin says the future of U.S. agriculture hinges on stronger trade policy and global competitiveness. Speaking at the Economic Club of Minnesota, Debertin called for a more consistent national trade approach. “It takes the country having a different approach than we’ve had, not just with this administration, but with recent administrations. We’re gonna need to get over that, I think, for people to see a future in many commodities, ag being one, where you are trying to serve your products around the world.” Debertin also warned that Brazil is rapidly expanding its role as a global supplier. “Since the year 2000, Brazil has brought in roughly 100 million acres of new production; they’re bringing more acres into production, and that production is significant and growing.” He says those shifts underscore the urgency for the U.S. to stay competitive in export markets.
