Grain markets are experiencing sharp volatility as traders react to global developments tied to the conflict in Iran. Van Ahn and Company’s Kristi Van Ahn says periods of global uncertainty often push investors to shift money out of equities and into commodity markets. “We have to remember that the last two or three years there has been a massive fight on inflation, and a massive fight on inflation is not a friend to commodity trading. Now, if you have that fear of inflation, you could see people wanting to jump back in.” Energy markets are playing a key role in the recent moves, with crude oil leading investors back into agricultural commodities. “Crude oil has been the driving force to bring buyers into the corn and wheat markets. We’ve got to know that this is far from over and there are going to be a lot of bumps in the road, and sometimes that provides opportunity.”
