The Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program is launching a new funding opportunity to help farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve water quality during the 2026 growing season. The program will use a federal Climate Pollution Reduction Grant to provide financial support to ag retailers that offer farmers discounts on nitrogen-enhanced-efficiency fertilizers, including nitrification inhibitors, urease inhibitors, and polymer-coated urea. Up to $1.5 million will be available for the program in 2026, with retailers eligible to receive up to $10 per acre for verified discounted sales and applications of approved products. At least 80 percent of those incentives must be passed on to farmers as point-of-sale discounts. Proposals from qualified retailers are due March 30 through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
