Over the weekend President Trump said he would put 100% tariffs on Canada if Prime Minister Mark Carney struck a trade deal with China. “A little bit of a scuttle about it this morning,” says AgMarket dot Net Market Analyst Matt Bennett. “Whereas, it sounds like maybe Canada’s backing off of that thought process a little bit, and they’ve been very overt in trying to relay that they’re wanting to not violate the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).” Bennett says Canada already has the perfect trade partner in place with the US, but their focus seems to be on expanding trade markets. “We’re a pretty safe partner as far as from a trade and efficiency standpoint. But at the same time, they’re trying to do everything they can to open up their ability to trade with other people.”
