The National Pork Producers Council says the suspension of retaliatory tariffs by China is a positive development for the U.S. pork industry. China had imposed a 57 percent tariff on U.S. pork in March, leading to a drop in exports. With the reduction of those tariffs by 10 percent, pork shipments are expected to become more competitive in the Chinese market. Industry leaders say the move should help restore a more stable trading environment after months of uncertainty. U.S. pork exports to China had been down 13 percent in the first seven months of the year due to the higher tariff rates.
