Iowa State University Vice President for Extension and Outreach Jason Henderson told the North Dakota Bankers Association Ag Credit Conference that global uncertainty, trade shifts, and falling crop prices are reshaping the farm economy. “The big thing that we have with the strong dollar policy is that agriculture and Midwestern economies that are built on agriculture are going to struggle fundamentally,” said Henderson. “It’s nothing you can control, but you’re going to have to figure out how to position yourself and deal with it and live within that. Collapsing crop prices are eroding farm profits as supplies build. “Our profits have disappeared.” He told bankers that the volatility in prices and incomes will only increase in the years ahead.
