At Nutrien’s Allan Potash Mine in Saskatchewan, operations stretch across a vast underground network. Mine Operations General Foreman Zoe Belanger said the tunnels are much different than what most people imagine. “Most people are surprised because it’s warm, it’s fairly well lit, and it has big open areas. The tunnels are very extensive, spanning 18 kilometers by 14 kilometers in width.” Belanger emphasized the teamwork required to produce potash and the importance of safety in daily operations. “It takes a big team to support all of that, and the mine captains are making those adjustments to get as many tons safely out of this mine every shift.” She added that a strong focus on safety helps retain employees long-term.
