Nutrien’s Allan Potash Mine in Saskatchewan is not only a key supplier of fertilizer to global agriculture but also a strong part of the local community. Environmental Engineer Curtis Ferguson said many employees, including himself, balance work at the mine with farming. “For me, working here as a farmer, there are actually many employees that are kind of in the same space as me, where they might have a smaller farm hobby operation, and their shift schedule allows them to do that, follow their passion, and to carry on farming the land like their fathers and mothers did before.” Ferguson also oversees environmental management at the mine, focusing on efficiency and conservation.
