The US beef industry is enjoying good times across the country, and nowhere is that more evident than in North Dakota. “The cattle business here in the United States is in great shape,” said National Cattlemens Beef Association President Buck Wehrbein while speaking at the North Dakota Stockmens Association Convention in Minot this week. “Prices are really good. We’re all scared to death that we’re overpricing our product, but it’s a supply and demand market, so it is what it is.” While cattle prices are hovering around all-time highs, Wehrbein admits that it’s not all good. “The New World Screw Worm is getting closer. It’s 70 miles south of Texas now and so that’s a big concern. The herd is already the smallest it’s been in 70 years, and without those Mexican cattle coming in, it’s even smaller. So that’s a big concern.”
