South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson expects the House and Senate to pass the farm bill before the end of the year, but it may not be finalized until 2026. “We might need a short-term extension to be able to get to the conference (committee) and maybe the first quarter of next year to get this done.” Support for beginning farmers and ranchers needs to be part of the next farm bill. “This is a real deal, for every two producers that are retiring, there’s only one producer who is replacing them,” said Johnson. “We want to make sure that we’re not making it too hard for that one producer to get in the game and be successful.”
