NDSU Extension Soybean Pathologist Wade Webster says multiple diseases are appearing in soybean fields across North Dakota, with wet and cool spring conditions contributing to the rise. “Right now, we’re starting to see sudden death syndrome symptoms and what’s interesting about that is that in most cases, that’s turning out to be brown stem rot.” Webster also notes that mild winters have allowed disease populations to survive, while excess moisture has exacerbated the problems. “Frogeye leaf spot has started to pop up, especially in the southeast corner of the state, from Dickey County over to Richland (County) and a little bit up into Cass (County).”
