Ranchers are being reminded to stay vigilant after an anthrax case was confirmed in Stark County. North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Executive Vice President Julie Ellingson says extreme weather can trigger dormant anthrax spores to emerge. “Anthrax is one of those weird phenomena that seems to respond or emerge when we have extreme weather and certainly the summer in North Dakota is a great example of that, with particularly heavy rainfall, extreme temperatures, so those spores are opportunists.” Working closely with your veterinarian is always a best management practice.”
