Beck’s Hybrids hosted its Becknology Days event on Tuesday at its new location in Olivia, Minnesota. CEO Scott Beck says the company is building a new facility south of town that will serve as both a distribution site and a practical farm research site. “Yes, we do sell seed, but the knowledge that we share is what attracts farmers to us; whether it’s our root reveal, silk reveal, drones versus ground sprayers versus airplanes, all that.” Looking ahead, Beck says genetics will continue to be a major driver of farm profitability. “When farmers work with us, they get access to not just one source of germplasm, really all the sources of germplasm, including our breeding program,” said Beck. “We have a corn breeding program here in Olivia, Minnesota, working with a company out of France with germplasm specifically adaptable to the north.”
