Canola’s rise from a niche crop to a major player in American agriculture was on full display at a field tour near Langdon, North Dakota. Corteva’s North American canola breeding lead Chad Koscielny reflected on its evolution and shared new developments in the field. “Back in 1986, we were somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 acres of spring canola in the U.S.,” said Koscielny. “We’re well up over 2.5 million acres today.” s a breeder, Koscielny says yield is still the number one priority. “Being able to get that yield stability and making sure we’re testing in zone and knowing what growers are looking for, the best way to know is to test it in their backyard.” Watch the YouTube interview.
