Canola growers are pushing back against claims made by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding seed oils. Speaking at the Langdon Research Extension Center Field Day, Northern Canola Growers Association Executive Director Barry Coleman criticized Kennedy’s statements, saying they’re based on outdated and misleading information. “It’s quite disappointing. I mean, he comes out on TV and says that seed oils are poisonous, and there’s no gray (area) there, it’s all black and white,” said Coleman. “In the MAHA report that was put out, they used a 17-year-old study that was done on rodents, and since then, we’ve had 15, 17 years of additional research, multiple studies that all show that plant oils reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.”
