North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong has announced a new Grain Storage and Facility Rebuilder Program to help farmers recover from severe storm damage, including tornadoes and derecho winds that hit the state on June 20–21. The storms destroyed tens of millions of bushels of grain storage infrastructure, leaving many producers scrambling to find replacements before harvest. “The Grain Storage and Facility Rebuilder Program will provide an immediate source of low-interest gap financing for producers so they can start ordering temporary or permanent grain storage solutions as they work through their insurance,” said Armstrong. “By quickly replacing storage and other infrastructure, farmers will have more control over when they can market this year’s crop, helping to minimize lost profitability.” The program offers two tracks: financing for temporary storage solutions and assistance for rebuilding or repairing permanent structures like grain bins, barns, and machine shops. Loans are capped at $150,000 with a two percent interest rate and no collateral required for temporary storage support. Applications open on Wednesday and run through December 31.
