Farmers in South Dakota made strong planting progress last week with six days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA. Topsoil moisture was rated 19 percent adequate, while subsoil moisture was just 12 percent adequate. Corn planting reached 7 percent, ahead of the five-year average of 1 percent. Spring wheat was 50 percent planted, and oats reached 59 percent—both well ahead of average. Winter wheat conditions were rated 45 percent fair.
