Minnesota farmers made planting progress last week with 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Corn planting reached 9 percent completion, ahead of last year’s 7 percent and the five-year average of 4 percent. Soybeans were 3 percent planted, slightly behind last year but still ahead of the average pace. Other crops planted include oats at 21 percent, potatoes at 8 percent, barley at 2 percent, spring wheat at 3 percent, and sugarbeets at 2 percent. Topsoil moisture was rated 62 percent adequate, while subsoil moisture stood at 53 percent adequate.
