A coalition of nine mainstream Minnesota farm groups has filed a request to intervene in a lawsuit against the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, Minnesota Trout Unlimited, and Minnesota Well Owners Association are behind the original litigation. The lawsuit claims the state agencies did not do enough to protect ground and surface water from nitrates. The farm groups argue against that, saying farmers have adopted best management practices and invested in technology to protect the state’s water resources.
