Democrats and Republicans have been at odds over the size of the agriculture assistance package that will likely be tied to a farm bill extension. According to Agri-Pulse, Democratic leaders are now proposing a $10 billion economic assistance package for farmers. Nearly $9 billion would be made to farmers to offset losses from the 2024 crop year and another $1 billion would reimburse farmers for a portion of their crop insurance premium. The Democrats would also move the remaining conservation funding in the Inflation Reduction Act into the farm bill. A one-year farm bill extension is expected to be included in a continuing resolution for fund the government.
