North Dakota Barley Council Chair Nathan Boll wants to make sure barley remains a viable crop in the state. “In doing that, we felt we needed to raise the checkoff to generate a few more dollars. We’re seeing our expenses go up. The dollar doesn’t go very far anymore. We vetted it through our county reps and floated the idea of going from a two-cent checkoff to a three-cent checkoff. Our county reps voted unanimously to move forward with that and we’ll work on getting that through the legislature in January.”
