Much of the U.S. winter wheat crop received timely rains before heading into winter dormancy. “In a very short time, we went from very poor crop condition ratings to a much more positive outlook,” said Tyllor Ledford, market analyst, U.S. Wheat Associates. “If this moisture is able to hold in the soil over the winter, that’s excellent for the crop.” Ledford emphasized early-season conditions do not necessarily tell the story for the final yield and quality prospects for winter wheat.
