Northern Canola Growers Association Executive Director Barry Coleman says the harvest conditions were almost perfect. “There was some late canola that got hit by excessively high winds in early October so that wasn’t good for growers getting hit by that, but for the most part the crop did very well.” USDA is forecasting the average canola yield at 1,880 pounds, which would be about up by 70 pounds from last year. “They increased the number of acres planted in the state from their June estimate to a record 2.15 million acres were planted in the state this year. That’s the first time we’ve eclipsed 2 million acres”
