With the heat seen in the past couple of weeks, the corn advancing quickly to the finish line. Grain moisture levels are in the range of 30-to-35 percent and will need time to dry down to harvestable moisture levels. Pioneer Field Agronomist Eric Lagge said it is important to now monitor stalk integrity. “With excessive rainfall, we’ve probably leeched or lost more nitrogen than we expected,” said Lagge. “Under these conditions, the plants will remove nutrients from the lower leaves and the stalk.” Those issues should be a consideration when prioritizing the harvest schedule.
