Alfalfa production has been good this year but rains have interfered with getting the crop off the field. North Dakota State University Extension Forage Crops Production Specialist James Rogers expects that farmers might be in a tough spot when deciding to take a final cutting or not. “Do it now so that the alfalfa has enough time to replenish its carbohydrate reserves before a killing frost.” Rogers says the other options are not cutting it or waiting until after a killing frost.
