According to the NDSU Crop and Pest Report, reports of northern corn rootworm in field corn and stalk lodging are being seen in southeastern North Dakota. Western corn rootworm happens in North Dakota, but northern corn rootworm is the dominant species in the state. To address this pest, NDSU Extension recommends extending crop rotations to at least a three-year cycle for high-risk fields. Options also include the use of an insecticide seed treatment and the control of volunteer corn in other crops.
