In St. Paul, the Minnesota House version of the agriculture budget bill allows the Agricultural Fertilizer Research and Education Council to end at the end of June. It repurposes the 40 cent per ton fertilizer fee for water quality projects in southeastern Minnesota. “Corn growers support AFREC as it exists and support a clean renewal of the AFREC program because of the valuable research it has provided to corn growers across the state,” said Amanda Bilek, senior public policy director, Minnesota Corn Growers Association. The Senate bill renews the farmer-funded research and education program.
