The Prospective Plantings Report is USDA’s best acreage guess before most planters begin to roll. USDA Chief Economist Seth Meyer said weather remains the wild card. “Weather always has the last say, right? When we think about a lot of things we shift principal crop acres actually planted, not intention, but actually planted, it’s often things like weather and prevent plant from year to year that are the big drivers.”
