The county Farm Bureau organizations in Wells County, Eddy County and Foster County hosted a farm succession meeting in Fessenden, North Dakota Friday. Wells County Farm Bureau Director Jeff Schafer spoke with other farmers and ranchers in preparation for the event. “I asked what percentage of them have done anything (on farm transitions) and the scary thing is it’s less than 20 percent,” Schafer told RRFN. “Myself included, I’m not pointing fingers at anybody, but it’s a difficult subject and it’s hard to tackle.” With the average age of a North Dakota farmer being 57, Schafer it’s time to have this discussion before its too late.
