The Bremen/New Rockford, North Dakota area received 1.3 inches of rain over the weekend. Before that, there has not been a measurable rainfall since June 20. In addition to that stress, Donny Allmaras says soybean aphids are an issue. “It’s night and day where a seed treatment insecticide was applied and where it wasn’t. Where it was not applied, there’s some pretty high soybean aphid numbers.” Allmaras sympathizes with the treatment decisions being made. “It is a really a hard decision because the crop is going backwards right now with no rain and there’s too many aphids on some of those fields so that’s really a challenging decision for the farmer.” Most of the wheat has been sprayed and will be harvested soon. Allmaras says the pinto bean harvest is also close.
