Clean, reliable water sources are vital for livestock. “If water isn’t of adequate quality, it can impact intake and therefore gains,” explained Miranda Meehan, livestock and environmental stewardship specialist, NDSU Extension. Most water sources are at acceptable levels in the region, but the heat could lead to a rapid decline in quality. “We know that those levels of minerals, total dissolved solids, and sulfate levels might be increasing if we’re not getting moisture.”
