A bipartisan coalition of 21 House members is asking the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office to address Brazilian trade barriers to U.S. ethanol. American ethanol shipped to Brazil is subject to a 16 percent import tariff this year and an 18 percent tariff next year. Meanwhile, Brazil exports ethanol to the United States with no duties. Brazil can also take advantage of the U.S. Renewable Fuels Standard. The lawmakers signing the letter include Minnesota Representatives Michelle Fischbach, Angie Craig and Brad Finstad and South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson.
