With migrating birds returning to the region, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture is keeping an eye out for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. “We’ve come a long way since 2015 in terms of our preparedness and response activities,” reports Andrea Vaubel, deputy commissioner. “We work very closely with USDA and the Board of Animal Health. We have a lot of expertise now in terms of depop and disposal, getting there quickly and thinking through transportation precautions we need to take to prevent the spread.”
