The Agricultural Transportation Working Group sent a letter to the Senate and House Transportation Committees Thursday asking them to intervene if an agreement can’t be reached between railroads and labor unions by Friday. National Grain and Feed Association Chief Economist Max Fisher says a strike or lockout for workers would be an Armageddon to the U.S. supply chain. “For domestic movement within the United States, if you take away the rail component, many different businesses will not receive the supplies they need to continue operating.” Fisher says the working group is leaving it up to lawmakers on how to intervene, if necessary. “We definitely want them to forbid a lock out or a strike, but beyond that, we didn’t address it.” Hear the story.
