Proseed District Sales Manager Dave Gehrtz is not expecting supply shortages to cause major acreage shifts. “The established farmers growing corn, wheat and soybeans are pretty much on track. Even though we’re looking at fertilizer prices and rising input costs, they’ll probably follow their plan. Some of the herbicide shortages are swaying decisions on which soybean traits to plant.” Gehrtz says sunflowers could possibly pick up acres, but right now there is a lot of indecision. “If the current prices and contracts stay good, it’s a reasonable crop to plant.” Hear the story.
