A change is being made in the way the mandatory lamb checkoff is being assessed. Auction markets will now collect both live weight assessments and the per-head, first handler assessment. Previously, the first handler, which is usually the processor or exporter, was responsible for submitting all of the valuations to the American Lamb Board. The checkoff rate did not change.
