During Bean Day, the Northarvest Bean Growers Association presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Tim Courneya. Red River Farm Network co-founder Mike Hergert was part of the award presentation, noting Courneya began his tenure as executive vice president of the association in 1976. “That longevity, devotion and dedication is, I think, unheard of in association work,” said Hergert. “Tim recalls all nine original board members went to the bank to personally back loans to keep the association going and push the creation of the North Dakota and Minnesota dry bean councils.” Courneya retired this past fall after spending 45 years with Northarvest. “It’s been a roller coaster ride; there couldn’t have been anything better for a young guy to be able to do these type of things,” remembered Courneya. Faye Courneya, who recently retired as the association’s office manager, was also recognized for her service to the dry bean industry. Listen to the entire award presentation.
