President Biden signed 17 executive orders on his first day in office, including a review of the Trump administration’s environmental regulations. COVID recovery and climate change have also been priorities in the first year of the administration. In late February, the Senate confirmed Tom Vilsack to lead USDA. Vilsack is one of the only agriculture secretaries to serve two different administrations. At least two USDA appointed officials are from South Dakota including Farm Service Agency Administrator Zach Ducheneaux and Marcia Bunger, administrator at USDA’s Risk Management Agency. It’s taken longer than usual for other Biden administration’s candidates to be confirmed or appointed. At this time, no FSA State Executive Directors have been named for the Dakotas and Minnesota. Ducheneaux said to be patient. “I don’t think it will be too far down the road before we see those appointments.”
