Pre-pile sugarbeet harvest continues for the American Crystal Sugar Company. General Agronomist Joe Hastings says a little more than 10 percent of this year’s crop is harvested. “With the rains we’ve had the last few weeks, the percentage of sugar content dropped a little, but we saw a rise back up in the past week. There’s good moisture in the soil. Hopefully, these nice, sunny days continue.” Tonnage is also improving with the recent rains. “We’ve been seeing a very nice improvement. Sugarbeets have been waiting for rains to plump up.” The full harvest campaign is expected to begin on Friday, October 1.
