The cool, damp conditions brought in a crowd for breakfast at Hoverson Farms in Larimore, North Dakota for the Northern Plains Potato Growers Field Day on Thursday. “Researchers are talking about their projects. It’s really all about research for potato growers,” says Donavon Johnson, president, Northern Plains Potato Growers Association. “How do we make the potato better for consumers and better for profitability?” NDSU Potato Breeder Susie Thompson had process potato variety samples to browse. “Our last processing release was the Dakota Russet and our first processing release was Dakota Trailblazer. Both look really good. The Dakota Russet is being processed for a number of quick serve restaurants, but we’re waiting for approval from the biggest quick serve restaurant in the world. Everyone likes the potato and it gets good yields.” The field day continued in Inkster and Hoople, North Dakota.
