For the upcoming session, House Agriculture Committee Chairman David Scott has prioritized food security, racial equality, the farm bill and climate change. When it comes to climate change, Scott wants to set up an independent disaster aid fund to help farmers. “When you have to do the regular appropriations process, it’s delayed. I’ve got farmers now who don’t even have the proper disaster aid.” Scott said farm bill discussions are starting and meetings are planned with the sugar industry. “I am 100 percent in support of sugar.” Hear the Red River Farm Network’s full interview.
