The incoming lead Republican for the House Agriculture Committee is Glenn “G.T.” Thompson from Pennsylvania. Thompson has been on the agriculture committee for 12 years, helping put together two farm bills and chairing three subcommittees. In an interview with the Red River Farm Network, Thompson said he has already met with the new House Agriculture Committee Chair David Scott. The two leaders will soon name committee members. “From a Republican perspective, I can tell you we have a tremendous talent pool of newly elected Republican members of Congress with a strong interest in agriculture. It was shared with me of the committee requests, the number one request is agriculture.” Not much policy has been discussed between Thompson and Scott going into the next Congress, but farm bill prep may be on the horizon.
