The phase one trade deal signed earlier this year has been positive for U.S. agriculture. U.S. Soybean Export Council CEO Jim Sutter thinks China will fulfill its phase one obligations. “We’ll have to see at the end of the year what the numbers add up to, but the purchases they have made are large and they’ve continued to make them. I think that’s what was supposed to happen in the deal and it’s been done.” Sutter says relations between U.S. exporters and Chinese importers are strong. “We’ve been working in China for almost 40 years and we’re very happy to have what we think is a strong relationship between U.S. farmers, the export industry and large import industry in China.”
