As farmers think about seed needs for next year’s crop. CHS Agronomy product development manager Blake Murnan says seed treatments should be part of the product mix. “The genetic potential for the seed is at its highest when it first enters the ground. Almost immediately, diseases and insect pressure can attack the seedling. That’s why it’s important for a crop to maximize its final yield and be protected in the first few weeks of its life.” Murnan says not all seed treatments are created equal. “CHS agronomy offers a service to retailers and seed treaters called STI Customize. That’s a blending service for seed treatments. We look at the needs of a particular geography and customer base and we build a seed treatment based on their needs.”
