A robust La Nina weather pattern is already setting up across the Pacific region. What does this mean for the winter months in the Northern Plains? “The fall months typically tend to favor warmer than normal temperatures,” said Mark Ewens, meterologist, Home on the Prairie Weather. “Obviously, that hasn’t really been the case this year because there are other factors in the atmosphere contradicting the classic La Nina pattern.” A La Nina tends to bring more frequent, cold weather periods. “Especially as we get past the first of the New Year.” This year, Ewens said more snow than normal is likely. Ewens reminds readers the climate and forecasting models are continuously changing. Hear more about the weather forecast in this Red River Farm Network interview.
